We do this by using our own hydrometric data, together with data provided by the Met Office and water companies. These include:

  • the amount of rain that falls in different catchments
  • how dry soils are and how much rain they can soak up for different areas (grids)
  • the amount of water flowing in different rivers
  • the amount of water stored below ground in aquifers and above ground in reservoirs

You can check current river, sea and rainfall level measurements from our monitoring stations

For the next three months information on the water situation can be found on the Hydrological Outlook UK website.

If you have any queries about specific water situation report datasets or datasets for 2018 until June 2019, please email us at WREPP@naturalresourceswales.gov.uk.

Monthly hydrological summaries for sites in Wales are available from Centre of Ecology & Hydrology

Further data is available from Centre of Ecology and Hydrology’s drought portal.
