STATEMENT | Natural Resources Wales agrees increased Financial Provision with Withyhedge Landfill operator

In 2024, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) requested that the operator of Withyhedge Landfill, Resources Management (UK) Limited (RML), review the Financial Provision in place for the site.
This Financial Provision is a secured fund that ensures the site can continue to be monitored and maintained for as long as it may pose a risk to the environment, including during the aftercare phase.
RML's review showed that the fund for Withyhedge Landfill needed to be increased. NRW has assessed RML’s proposal and agrees with the revised figure.
To make this change official, the permit for the site must be updated. NRW is therefore carrying out a regulator-led variation to the permit to include the revised financial agreement. No other parts of the permit are being changed.
This decision is essential to ensure that sufficient resources are set aside to protect the environment over the long-term future of the site.
This does not affect the separate, substantial permit variation application that was recently submitted, which we will be consulting the public on shortly.
