Work to repair the surface of the entrance road to Fforest Fawr, a popular public forest near Tongwynlais, will begin on Monday 5 June.

Natural Resources Wales (NRW), which manages the forest, will need to close the entrance road and car park for about a week.

The waymarked walking trails within Fforest Fawr will remain open, although access to them from the car park at the northern end of the forest will be restricted.

Visitors should look at alternative routes into the forest, such as on foot from Taff’s Well.

Jonathan Lee from NRW’s land management team said:

“Fforest Fawr provides the stunning backdrop to Castell Coch and is one of our most popular forests in Wales.

“The entrance road to the well-used car park needs regular maintenance to make sure people and vehicles can enter the forest safely.

“This is why we have to close the entrance road and the forest car park while these repairs are carried out.

“We will aim to complete the work as quickly as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience caused to visitors.”
