Operator waste return and deadlines for returns

Operators with an environmental permit must complete waste returns to report to us the waste they have received or removed from their site

UPDATE: The waste return template and guidance has changed for April-June 2019 returns. If you carry out an activity that involves the recovery or disposal of waste (including waste activities carried out by certain installations) you need to submit information on your technical competence arrangements. Please ensure that you use the most recent version of the form and guidance you should download below.

Natural Resources Wales uses this information to:

  • monitor a site’s compliance with their environmental permit conditions
  • maintain a public register
  • compile national statistics about waste

The current version of the spreadsheet can be downloaded at the bottom of this page. Please ensure you submit your return using this version of the spreadsheet for it to be accepted. It is important that you complete all of the mandatory fields within the spreadsheet and use your EPR (Environmental Permitting Regulations) number rather than any historical reference numbers. If you have any difficulties downloading the latest waste returns spreadsheet below, then please contact us for assistance.

How to classify and assess waste

For further help on how to select the correct EWC code for waste please use the guidance available.

Waste returns – electronic form

Waste facilities that are not Materials Facilities need only complete the first sections in the three sheets in the workbook that are headed in blue, Materials Facilities need to complete the full sheets.

If your site has more than one waste permit you must supply a return for each of the permits.

If within your facility there are several waste operations undertaken under a single permit we require more than one return to be completed in order to separately document the waste inputs and outputs from each waste operation.

Please submit completed waste returns to waste.returns@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk. If you have any waste return related queries, then please also send them to this address.
