The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 gives legal protection to all wild plants. Plants and fungi on Schedule 8 have more protection. Offences include sale, picking, uprooting and destroying. We grant licences for specific purposes.

The Water Framework Directive requires specification of protected areas for those areas designated for the protection of economically significant species. This list are those protected areas previously designated under the repealed Shellfish Waters Directive which are now specified under the Water Framework Directive.

The existing SPA is made-up of Skokholm, Skomer and Middleholm islands which lie off the extreme south-west tip of Pembrokeshire in south-west Wales.

The purpose of this guide is to highlight the importance of ecosystem resilience and encourage practical action that can be taken to build it across Wales. It contains examples of the many and varied actions that we need to do more of.

The natural environment of Mid Wales is one of the area’s greatest assets. Its rural character features remote uplands, mountains, coastline, reservoirs and borderlands, making it an ideal location to reconnect people with the outdoors.

This theme is about working together so that sustainable opportunities for the economy and the environment are developed. This includes identifying sustainable approaches to economic opportunities that enhance the natural resources unique to North West Wales.

This theme includes ensuring that we all work together to improve ecosystem resilience in the area. We need to reverse the decline, and act to enrich biodiversity. This theme links closely with Vital Nature, NRW's strategic steer for biodiversity.
