The role

You’ll play a key role in managing vital flood risk assets – analysing data, assessing infrastructure, and helping to deliver smart, sustainable solutions that make a real difference to communities. You’ll work on a varied mix of capital and revenue projects, collaborate with internal and external partners, and represent NRW at community events and stakeholder groups. It’s a role that combines analytical thinking, hands-on engineering, and meaningful engagement.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.

What you will do

  • Manage the National Asset Management System (AMX) and associated data including collecting survey data. 
  • Analyse asset information and flood risk data to determine current and future flood risk asset management need. 
  • Support Health & Safety best practice by actively promoting awareness and ensuring the provision of safe working practices to comply with NRW’s policy and standards. 
  • Assist the development of the Medium-Term Plan. 
  • Carry out pre-feasibility studies from Flood Risk Management Plans and Shoreline Management Plans. 
  • Undertake engineering assessments. 
  • Project management of small/ medium value (up to £100K) capital and revenue projects. 
  • Design, cost benefit, risk priority, project scopes, tender evaluation, and reporting for projects. Also act as Senior User.
  • Monitor compliance with Reservoir Act 1975. 
  • Supervise consultants and contractors on frameworks. 
  • Representative as a professional partner on flood groups, coastal groups and community events. 
  • Advise and support risk management authorities, communities and other stakeholders.
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills

In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.

1.    Educated to degree level in Civil Engineering or equivalent in a scientific subject. 
2.    Good knowledge of ICT, including GIS systems and CAD (e.g. ARCGIS, AutoCAD). Good knowledge of AMX database would be an advantage. 
3.    Good awareness of Health and Safety and relevant regulations e.g Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM). 
4.    Knowledge of civil engineering design, construction contract practices. 
5.    Member of or demonstrate willingness to work towards membership of a relevant professional body such as ICE/CIWEM. 
6.    Project Management experience and PRINCE 2 would be desirable.

Welsh language level requirements

  • Essential: Level C2 - Fluent in spoken and written Welsh
