Starting salary:  £36,246 rising to £39,942 per annum through annual increments being paid each year (pro rata for part time applicants)

The role

To provide technical advice to inform the setting of NRW’s strategic direction for utilising citizen science and other external data to complement NRWs environmental monitoring, in the context of our annual monitoring programmes, and associated laboratory analytical programmes. You will provide guidance to operational teams on  citizen science monitoring work. You will work with colleagues across EPP and Operations, and representatives from partner organisations involved in monitoring work.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

What you will do

• Provide technical advice to contribute to the setting of the strategic direction for NRW’s environmental monitoring, ensuring it is fit to support our corporate outcomes and meet statutory obligations.
• Contribute to the development of NRW’s collaboration with citizen science monitoring activities across freshwater, terrestrial and marine, working with colleagues across the organisation.
• Maintain oversight of citizen science monitoring where NRW  has an interest. 
• Interact with a range of partner organisations working on strategic and operational monitoring work.
• Contribute to developing the use of citizen science and other external data to drive improved performance and efficiency in NRW’s monitoring service.
• Participate in groups established to ensure the effective governance of monitoring within NRW.
• Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

• Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills

In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.

1. You will have knowledge and expertise in an area of freshwater, terrestrial or marine monitoring.
2. You will have a proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
3. You will have the ability to process, analyse and interpret technical information.
4. You will be a good communicator with the ability to present both technical and non-technical information effectively.
5. You will have previous experience of managing projects.

Welsh language level requirements

• Essential: Level A1 - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh)
